Hoot Smart Device

Before you Begin
You will need your home Wi-Fi password and be near your hot water tank during activation. Record your serial number from the right side sticker of the Hoot smart device to have ready.

Activating your Hoot.

1. Create Your Hootwater Account
2. Turn on your Hoot smart device
  1. Press the POWER button on the left side of the Hoot module.
  2. The LED on the front should light up (flashing orange) to indicate it is powered up - this could take up to 2 minutes.\
  3. When it is flashing orange quickly, continue to step 3.
3. Connect Phone to Wi-Fi Signal From Hootwater Device
  1. Press and hold the Reset button (the second one on the left hand side) until LED starts flashing fast orange/green (can take more than 10 seconds). This indicates that the device is in Wi-Fi setup mode and you’ll now be able to connect to the Hoot smart device using either an Android phone or iPhone.
  2. Discover Wi-Fi networks on your phone and connect to the temporary device network that is presented in the format HXXXXXXW (Example: H544E9AW - this is also your device serial number).
  3. Use hootwater as the password to join this Wi-Fi signal

4. Transfer Phone’s Wi-Fi Connection to Home Wi-Fi

For iPhone

  1. On an iPhone, you will be directly forwarded to the Wi-Fi setup page.
  2. Once on the Wi-Fi setup page, wait for the list of Wi-Fi networks to appear.
  3. Choose your home Wi-Fi network and enter your password, click on the “Connect” button to complete connection.
  4. Once Wi-Fi is connected, the Hoot device LED will slow flash Green or Red.

For Android

Note: Some users may be able to go directly to step [d.]

  1. On Android Phones, accept connection without internet: “Connect only this time”.
  2. Select the Wi-Fi icon for the Hoot device network.
  3. Select “Manage Router”.
  4. On the next page, choose your home network and type your home Wi-Fi password, click on the “Connect” button to complete connection.
  5. Once Wi-Fi is connected, the Hoot device LED will slow flash Green or Red.
5. Configure your Tank
  1. Log back into https://hootwater.cloud and press the “+” icon to add device, type the serial number that can be found on the Hoot smart device label (right side panel).
  2. Once connected, go back to home page using home button.

c. When device is connected, go to “Configuration” to select correct  Tank Size, Plan, Mode, and Device Location.

Data Entry Notes:
  1. Your tank size is usually shown on the label on the side of the tank. We use imperial gallons. If your exact tank size is not shown use the next largest size in the dropdown menu.
  2. if you do not know your rate plan, select “Time Of Use”.  Tiered rate customers should select Time Of Use.
  3. Mode Choices – see brief explanations below. More detail is provided at hootwater.com/setup.
    1. Hoot Comfort – Use this as a default and to start. It shifts your water heating away from peak periods.
    2. Hoot Saver – Shifts water heating away from peak and some mid-peak periods.
    3. Hoot Manual – Allows you to set the mode for each hour. Note: we require the tank to be on from midnight to 6am for health and safety reasons.
  4. Location – We recommend you enter your family last name.
